Tabo is a small town located on the road between Recong Peo and Kaza . The town is best known for a monastery which is about thousand years old it is also the holiest monastery since the Dalai Lama himself expressed his desire to retire in this monastery.

It is considered as one of the historic treasure of the country. Tabo monastery is very popular and regarded for its rich history and a protector of the Tibetan culture and traditions. Established in 996 AD, by a great teacher and translator Lotsawa Rinchen Tsang Po, Tabo monastery is a prime center for advance learning. Hundreds of nuns, lamas and monks stay here.
Gue Village And Monastery:
Located about 40 kms away fromTabo Monastery, Gue Village and Monastery is home to a mummified monk who scarified his life for the welfare of the people is about 500 years old. The place is under vigilance of the ITBP.
Dhankar literally means an unreachable place in the mountains for strangers. Associated with the Great Translator, Rinchen Zanggpo, Dhankar monastery is located around 24 kms away from the town of Kaza, at an altitude of 12,774 feet.
Visit the interesting Pin Valley National Park in the cold desert area of Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh.
